What is the "User" in alluxio and how to use it?

Jihoon Oh
hello, I have been tested Alluxio on pure docker. (ref : https://www.alluxio.org/docs/1.7/en/Running-Alluxio-On-Docker.html)

I set up the alluxio master and worker with local NFS. It is work well greatly.

But, I have a question about user management such as create user, login, security, quota, and so on.
Also, I see the features supporting the security at "ENTERPRISE SECURITY & COMPLIANCE"  on https://www.alluxio.com/products.
There are "Multi-user Support". I have been understood that Alluxio support multiple user.
But, I really can't find any reference or guide documents for setting or congiguring user.

What does mean "Multi-user Support" ?
Also, What does mean "User" on Alluxio?

I wonder if you could give some reference or information about user management on Alluxio community edition.

Thanks in advance.

Re: What is the "User" in alluxio and how to use it?

Andrew Audibert
Hi Jihoon,

Sorry for the late response. This security documentation page goes over what the open-source project supports: https://www.alluxio.org/docs/1.8/en/Security.html.
There is basic multi-user support, with a posix-like access controls but no user management, login, or quotas.
The enterprise edition adds integrations with Kerberos and LDAP that are useful for running Alluxio securely in an enterprise environment.

User management happens outside of Alluxio. With simple authentication, Alluxio users correspond to Unix users. With Kerberos integration, users are defined by the Kerberos setup.
